New sources of protein (insects, algae, waste streams)

The transition to protein diversification requires the safe and efficient processing of alternative feed ingredients (insects, algae, plant-based waste streams). In the Feed Pilot, we create pilot conditions that support both small batch sizes and semi-industrial volumes. We link process outputs to feed analyses (amino acid profiles, minerals, oxidation indicators) and - where relevant - palatability and feed intake. This allows us to answer questions such as: “What is the optimal thermal/mechanical profile for integrating an algae or insect component without loss of nutritional value?” or “How do we minimize oxidation and flavor deviations at higher inclusion levels?” The result provides decision-making data for formulations and process settings focused on safety, consistency, and economic feasibility. Thanks to its complementarity with external knowledge platforms, the Feed Pilot can quickly adapt to new feed ingredients while ensuring compliance with scientific standards and quality systems.
