Feed evaluation is crucial for accurately assessing the quality and nutritional value of animal feed. An accurate evaluation determines not only the energy and nutrient density, but also how well the feed meets the animal’s needs. This is essential for efficiency, animal welfare, and minimizing environmental impact.

By analyzing feed ingredients and finished products, we can optimize formulations, prevent waste, and reduce emissions. At the Feed Pilot, we combine field trials with analytical data to provide companies with reliable insights for sustainable and profitable feed strategies.

Together with ILVO-Animalab and the Food Pilot, the Feed Pilot conducts analyses of nutritional value, pellet quality, shelf life, and safety. This provides companies with insight into the performance of their products and helps them meet quality standards.

Analytical areas:

• Nutrition: proximate analysis (DM, crude protein, fat, fiber), amino acids, minerals.
• Quality: pellet durability (PDI), fines percentage, bulk density, moisture.
• Safety: mycotoxins, residues, pathogens (via accredited labs).
• Shelf life: oxidation markers, shelf life under various storage conditions.
• Palatability: sensory proxies linked to feed intake (with animal trial linkage via ILVO).
